The new Northern Ireland High Street Voucher Scheme is set to be launched at the start of Autumn, but just who is eligible for it?
Last month, it was announced that every person in Northern Ireland over the age of 18 will be eligible to apply for a pre-paid card worth GBP100 to spend on their local high street.
The scheme was announced last year as part of Stormont's Economic Recovery Action Plan, which is designed to help local businesses that have been hit hardest by the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic. A separate Holiday at Home Voucher Scheme is also planned for later this year. This will allow households to claim back up to 50% from the price of a two night or more stay at certified accommodation in Northern Ireland, up to GBP100.
Vouchers will also be issued, offering 50% off visits to attractions up to the value of GBP20.
However, these will be issued on a first come first serve basis in the Autumn in order to try and keep demand high in off-season months.
Economy Minister Diane Dodds has said the high street scheme should hopefully inject GBP140million into the local economy, with people having to physically go to businesses to spend the voucher.
Who is eligible for the High Street Voucher Scheme?
Anyone over the age of 18 in Northern Ireland will be able to avail of the High Street Voucher Scheme and the Holiday at Home scheme.
There are currently around 1.4 million people aged 18 or older in Northern Ireland, which is roughly 80% of the country's population.
The High Street Scheme will be available to apply for on an online portal which people must sign up to and request their voucher from.
The voucher can only be used at businesses in person - it doesn't transfer to online purchases.
As for the Holiday at Home Scheme, people can request their discount after paying for it.
You will apply for your voucher which can be spent at certified accommodations, which will give you a 50% discount from the price of a two night stay up to GBP100.
