Budget airline Ryanair is offering cut-price Covid testing to passengers after arranging a deal with health provider Randox. Passengers can now buy discounted PCR testing kits ahead of their holidays for around GBP60 - half the usual price of GBP120. Non-essential foreign travel is set to restart for the summer under a new 'traffic light system' which will include a pre-departure check as well as PCR on return to the UK.
In some cases, this includes needing two PCR tests. potentially adding hundreds of pounds to travel costs. Green list destinations will require a PCR test on day two of their return, amber on days two and five during self-isolation (test and release will apply, but if there isn't a confirmed negative result then another test on day eight). Red list destinations will require PCR tests on days two and eight of a quarantine hotel stay.
Ryanair's discount for passengers will be available on both pre-departure tests, and return testing kits for days two and eight. Only UK-based customers will qualify for the offer. Further details are available on ryanair.com.
Most other airlines offer discounted Covid tests for passengers. Travel checks not not available through the NHS and passengers must arrange their tests independently. May 17 is the earliest date for the resumption of overseas leisure travel for people in England, under the Westminster Government's road map for easing restrictions.
No dates have been set by the devolved administrations.
