With more than 11,000 miles of coast on the mainland alone (depending on how you measure it) - without even getting started on the islands, there are a lot of beaches, coves and cliffs to enjoy in the UK. During the pandemic, their attraction has been amplified, as we seek big, open vistas and the chance for a paddle or even a swim. So drawn are we to our shores, that we have established coastal paths that drastically improve access: the England Coast Path is aiming for completion in the next year and will be the longest managed and waymarked coastal path in the world, at 3,000 miles.
Already open in sections, the completed trail will join the 870-mile Wales Coast Path; the proposed Scottish Coastal Way would join existing paths by 2030.
The i newsletter latest news and analysisBeyond the right to roam, many of us simply want to sit on the sand (or shingle) and soak up the scenery.
From the soaring chalk cliffs of the Seven Sisters in Sussex to the aquamarine hues of the Outer Hebrides, there is beauty all around us.
Which is why we'd like you to tell us about the country's best seaside stretches by nominating them for the itravel Staycation Awards 2020/21. These could be Blue Flag beaches with great accommodation and gourmet offerings, quiet coves or sandy swathes. It could be a city beach or a remote region; nowhere is too obscure, or too popular.
How to nominate
The Awards are free to enter here and nominations are open until 5 April.
All you need to do is tell us which seaside location in the UK deserves to win in no more than 200 words, outlining why it goes above and beyond its peers in this sector. Readers who take the time to nominate will also be entered into a prize draw for a GBP1,000 voucher towards a stay in a self-catering property offered by our Awards partner, holidaycottages.co.uk. A panel of judges will decide the finalists and, ultimately, the winners.
These will be revealed on 10 June 2021 at inews.co.uk/staycationawards.
